Last month Janice and I photographed the staff at 1% for the Planet in Waitsfield, Vermont. We had just 15 minutes with each person before doing a group shot. Normally I spend that long in the studio just saying hi and how are you, explaining how the shoot will work, and generally trying to put the person at ease before we start taking pictures. For this job, I compressed that speech into about 30 seconds and started shooting, moving to three or four different Bridge Street locations with each person during the mini sessions.
The series of photographs below are shown in the order we took them starting with Pauline and then moving onto Leah, Rebecca, Barbara, Gaelan, Brodie, Brittany, Danny, Melody, Terry, and Kerry. For the group shot, I was assisted by my dear friend Kelly Dudash of 822 Weddings who arranged and directed while I manned the camera and Janice picked dandelions for that very cool image at the end of this post.

Founded in 1960, the Floodwoods Herd in Waitsfield, Vermont, continues to accentuate the inherent attributes of the Beltie breed so suitable for rough terrain in harsh climates. Belted Galloways are great foragers and, in the summer, thrive on marginal hill pastures. With their extra winter coat, they live out all winter with only hay to eat. The mothers calve easily, give copious milk, and are protective.
We took these pictures last Saturday. Most of the calves were born the previous week, but one had arrived on Friday and was only one day old! For more pictures from this set, see our Facebook album.

Few things are more fun than taking pictures, but watching other people take pictures is fun too. And for a really good time, try taking pictures of people taking pictures. I shot these in Manhattan last week.

I love to watch people pose in front of a camera. That brief moment says so much about that person or group. Below are three images of people posing for someone else and three of people posing for me. I shot them in Times Square with the exception of the lovely Rockette who I met at Radio City Music Hall. How cool is that?

We Americans love our mobile devices and New Yorkers are no exception. I snapped pictures of these phone lovers while in the Big Apple last week. And no, I didn't take them with my iPhone. I used a real camera!
