The Callender House and Highseas

Architect Fred Savage of Mount Desert Island designed The Callender House (large image below) and Highseas. Today the Jackson Lab owns these former homes, both located on the Schooner Head Road just outside of Bar Harbor. The JAX allowed the MDI Photo Club to photograph both structures for our March outing. The Callender House (1901) was the first summer cottage built of brick in Bar Harbor. The much larger Highseas (1912) with its 23 rooms survived the Great Fire of 1947. I shot these images with a Canon 5D Mark III DSLR and an iPhone 5s. Unfortunately, we were only unable to photograph the exterior of the Callender House. All of the interior shots are of Highseas which you can see on a Google map by clicking here (zoom into see the building and how large it is).
